S by Schiaparelli c1928

S by Schiaparelli: launched in 1928. Renamed "Schiap" in 1934.  Renamed Sport in 1952.  It was created to be worn by both men and women for sports. And then relaunched again as 'S' in 1961.






Fragrance Composition:


So what did it smell like? It was a unisex fresh floral fragrance that was both fresh and bittersweet with dominant notes of madonna lily heliotrope, tuberose, iris, white hyacinth, rose and jasmine, layered over a leafy, green base of oregano, patchouli, oakmoss and vetiver.
  • Top notes: citrus, madonna lily, hyacinth, galbanum
  • Middle notes: rose, iris, carnation, jasmine, heliotrope. tuberose
  • Base notes: oregano, patchouli, vetiver, Yugoslavian oakmoss, Mysore sandalwood, orris, musk, amber
 


The Delineator, 1935:
"PERFUMES FOR SPORT. Schiaparelli, the brilliant couturiere, has just put out some perfumes. Her first. "Schiap" which is dedicated to the sportswoman, is our favorite, but for indoors "Salut" is pretty fetching."


Bottles:


Whenever you see the white "lace" embossed boxes trimmed with pink, you can safely date them to after 1961. You can find the eau de toilette and the parfum.







Fate of the Fragrance:


Discontinued, date unknown, probably in the 1940s.
